| let me just say i had a deprived childhood and have absolutely no idea what you are referring to - most of the christmas gifts i got were second hand or totally pointless like a bag of rags and for my birthday i always got money so that i could buy my school uniform with it. | |

| I remember one christmas,i'd of been about 8, my mum got me a secondhand bike,it was quite a scruffy little bike with a wonky seat, but my mum shined it up and i loved it so much,my first proper bike ! It snowed quite heavily that christmas though so my brother dug a pathway through the snow so i could try it out ,it was great | |

| oh i did have a womble - the only thing that was ever bought for me at christmas that was brand new was the beano annual - my parents once bought me a petite type writer that was second hand but i couldnt use it christmas day as they didnt buy any paper to use with it and the ink ribbon had virtually no ink in it. | |

| Ah bless her chris! Thats some caring that is. The books im reading at the minute are all set around the second world war and mention about blackout curtains, rationing and the clothes they wore etc, really makes you think about what they went through and what limited things they had compared to today. Wish there was a place you could go to re-live it. I wouldnt mind the rationing for the weightloss, and my ungrateful kids could do with only having 1 or no toys at christmas so they value things alot more. | |

| I remember my first bike was second hand. We lived on the isle of wight, and i went with my mum and found it in an old garage that was used to sell stuff from. It was a blue one and it folded and i LOVED it! I couldnt bring it with me when we moved and i was DEVASTED for YEARS afterwards!! Dont think i ever really had another bike after that | |

| My mum has a book called 'the pantry under the stairs' ,its written by a lady from Leicester who was a little girl in the war and she used to go in the pantry when there was an air raid. It brought back so many memories for my mum,as she was the same age as the girl in the book and went through the same things | |

| my dad was born at the beginning of the second world war. he lived in scotland on the east coast but remembers the beach being cordoned off with barbed wire so it was out of use. he also remembers eating his first banana he took the skin off and tried to eat that and threw the actual banana away. | |

| I have a signed copy of that book Shelmor it is really good. I used it when I did my A level history project which I based on the lives of women during the second world war. It was brill doing that as I managed to find a few old ladies to interview about there experiences, and learn all there little tricks for getting by without makeup etc. | |

| I still have my project and tapes of the interviews. I got my best make of the whole A-level on that project. If you ever fancy a look let me know and I'll sort it out for you.
I totally loved doing it as WW2 is my favourite period in history. I'd happily hop in a time machine, go back and try to live my way through the war. | |
