The Towers Hospital was built in 1869 and was originally called the Leicester Borough Asylum and at its peak it held just under 1000 patients. However there are various things we do know about Mental Healthcare in general from that time. It is a well known fact that women who had illegitamate babies, or even having sex out of wedlock (even rape victims!) could be interred in such institutions in those days, this continued up until the 1940s. Many spent their entire lives in such places. In general people were put in such places to save embarrassment rather than to be cared for so I can imagine there would be some unhappy spirits there.
The place is a very large complex and had many wards when it was at its peak.other ward were added at later periods with the latest being Arnold lodge.
the area around the Towers hospital is also said to be haunted and the grounds themselves are said to be patrolled by ghost dogs.
