A BRIEF REPORT OF BELGRAVE HALL 15th MARCH 2008


As it was pouring down with rain we only did a quick walk around the gardens but a couple of people could smell sweet flavoured smells.

There was a large group in that night so decided to split the group into 3, but because of the heavy rain Lee opened us up inside the main hall way and already I had a stone thrown at my legs a warning of what was to come.

We started on the middle landing and Lee stayed with each group in the ladies parlour, the other two groups went into the other rooms and on the landing. Each group felt a presence in the ladies parlour and a number of stones were thrown and people where touched. One group said it wasn’t a nasty presence but the other two groups felt more that it was .I had to leave the room as I saw a shadow in front of me and a voice kept going through my head saying its you its you that’s was my second warning. Other groups saw shadows on the stairs and heard movements. On the corridor in between rooms a number of people looked into the mirror and could see there face changing into other people.

We then went downstairs again splitting into 3 groups, one in the scullery doing table tipping the others in the dining room and multicultural room. The table tipping was very good all groups got it to move and various names came out that we could verify later. One group in the multicultural room had a lady dancing round us you could hear her skirt swishing around and she touched one of the ladies also she stood behind myself and I could feel her all down my back and she glowed white behind me, a lady came out with the name Charlotte and she responded to that. We then became 2 groups with us swapping rooms and we again could hear her skirt as she was walking around in the dining room, the other group also had things thrown of the table in there. Back in the multicultural room Lee was channelled by Charlotte who told us it was her that was dancing for us, also after going very quiet he then began to laugh in a very menacing way which I have heard every time I’ve been there and was shouted at in my face again saying that I knew who he was that was my 3rd warning.

We then went back into the kitchen and some who had not done the table tipping stayed to do that and the rest I took the into the kitchen, as we all stood around I started to call out and one of the tall gentleman’s appearance changed a couple of times one was into a tall but rounded face and figure but the other time into a really tall man with a long pointed face to which I knew who it could be and I told him to stay back. The gentleman started to get a bit angry with us for saying this but not just myself witnessed this the others opposite saw it to and two ladies could not even look at him and when I spoke to him his voice changed and he took two steps towards me again I shouted at him to move back. Lee’s group rejoined us and we did a standing séance and the lady who came with the other gentleman stood next to me and in-between and the other man, the lady was channelled and she said I CA’NT SEE YOU. Then the gentleman’s breathing changed and could hardly stand up but he wouldn’t say anything so Lee asked the spirit to move away and in the next minute he let out the same menacing laugh in the same voice Lee had used earlier.

Top floor was next we split up into 3 groups again but the ladies on the landing wanted to return to the safe room and asked Lee if someone could take them but a sound was heard near his door where they inside and when Lee tried to open it he couldn’t it was shut tight. It took him a good five minutes before he could get the door to open. We swapped rooms and we could hear someone walking on the floor boards in the house keeper’s room all the while we were in there.

Our finale vigil was séance on the middle floor landing with everyone except two ladies who were in the safe room taking part. I had something thrown at me of a table which hit my legs Lee was channelled again by various people one was John Ellis who told the children to go back to bed which was good as we heard footsteps running upstairs and the feeling of being watched through the banisters. Next was another former house owner with is family. My friend also returned to shout at me one last time who gave me my last warning that might time was coming soon wench and after shouting at us again left for the night and finally Gertie came to visit very frail with her bad legs and as soon as Lee came back to us he told us that his legs hurt. And as we were walking back down the stairs to go home all the lights went out but only on the landings not in the rooms and Lee and Dave could not get them to come back on but the next day the staff told Lee that they were fine and all working how strange.

Yet again another good night at Belgrave Hall as with each time there’s an investigation there it just gets better and better as the other group who went last week can tell you.

Belgrave Hall 31st May 2008


We started the night with a walk around in the light and on coming back down from the top floor the doors on the cupboard on the landing were open but on going up they were closed. As some of us went to take pictures a couple of us felt very uneasy about going up to the middle floor which was quite strange as we have been here a number of times. Upon going up to the top floor I had a mans voice say to me “Go Down” which made me feel very uncomfortable. On the second floor landing we also heard a very loud noise as we went to walk into the master bedroom and when we spoke about it we all had a cold feeling goose bumps on our arms.


We opened up in the court yard and Lee immediately was told something (sorry I’ve forgot what) so were we in for a good night? As it was a light night we decided to do the cellars and this was only the second time they had been done. We felt cold breezes and a lot of people were being touched some on there arms and some even on there bums. We could see lights in front of Lee and where Dawn was standing in front of what little light there was a child could be seen peering around her like playing peek-a-boo. We also heard a sigh and had the feeling of someone moving around us. Rachel shouted out “Play” as though someone was playing hide and seek. As I had my elbow grab I decided to move across the other side of the room. I had my chest touch as Rachel had as well. Rachel was channelled as was lee and he started to count 12345 a ladies voice answered back 5678 and it wasn’t any of us. I had immense pressure on my head as though I was being pressed down also my back was being grabbed behind and was told “He was coming”. They wanted to play but I shout out I don’t I just want to go. Lees counting got louder then he shouted at the top of his voice “BOO” sacred everyone except me who was shouting I Just want to go, I was crying uncontrollably but when they tried to get me out I could move it was as though they would let go of me. We ended the vigil at this point as a break was needed. I was very shaken up by this and felt very quiet as someone was still with me.


Top Floor.

As I had been told to Go Down from the top stair case Lee decided this would be where we would start.Immediatly we heard a noise from the middle landing.

House Keepers Room.

As soon as we walked in we felt off balance as you were on a ship. We heard the door move in the corner as someone was trying to open it. We also heard noises in one corner. Rachel could see someone lying on the bed and the bed dipping down, someone old and paled faced.

Children’s Nursery.

A bit quiet in here tonight Pam’s Features changed into old ladies as she sat in the chair. Dawn got upset as she felt some child had died by accident in the fire. And Lee had to leave the room as he felt very unwell and that he shouldn’t be there as he came back in and tried to shut the door something was stopping him from shutting it, it was very forceful and some all felt it. All of a sudden the door shut very forcefully taken Lee by surprise. We also had the smell of baby milk in there and also smoke as though something was burning.


Second Floor Landing.

Lee decided to do a séance here but instantly I didn’t feel very safe. Dawns was very excited about doing this. Lee was one side of the landing and I was on the opposite next but one to Dawn. Lee was channelled by a spirit called James and he was there on business. I started to feel very uncomfortable and Dawn said to me “I’ve got to tell you your times coming” this put me on edge and I didn’t want to talk and ask Lee questions. He was very quiet and Dawn said “no you have to ask”, “she’s got to ask it’s the wrong person).I really didn’t want to do it but Dawn was getting quite agitated and started to stare very menacingly at me. Next minute as I felt I had to ask Lee changed immediately laughing in a very sinister tone and said to me “you know who I am” this was Edmund and we had met before. The next minute all hell broke loose as I just could talk and Dawns screaming “you, you” and laughing, Lee started shouting at Rachel and had to be pulled back by the men, I started crying and saying “I just want to go home”. As Lee got more angry we shouted for him to be brought back and the next minute Dawns screaming at the top of her voice”No, No, No” but this was a ear piecing scream like a wounded animal she didn’t want Lee brought back she was egging him on. It took a while for Lee to come back to us but Dawn was on her knees screaming and crying wildly and it took us a lot longer to bring her back. God I’ve never felt like this here before it was as though they where out to get me and there evil looks will stay with me for a long time.


Master Bedroom and Gentleman’s Study.

We didn’t stay long in these after what had happened on the landing and decided a break was in order.

Ladies Parlour.

This is a really dark room and we all still felt very uncomfortable even Pam who works there said it was so very different to any other time she had been there. The night was feeling very sinister. Stones where thrown in here and lights across the room was seen. Rachel was twice being strangled in there and was choking. Barney was touched on the arm and Sam was also touched and had things whispering in her ear. People felt very uneasy in here and shadows could also be seen.


Dining Room.

A couple of objects were thrown in the dining room as we heard them hitting the china on the table. A few lights were seen and people mentioned that they were being touched. Lee was channelled in here by John Ellis who told us they were having a business meeting and that the carriage had to be 68ft long but they were not happy about that. He asked us if we had seen his wife Charlotte as the children needed to be taken care of, we also asked if he was happy we were there and told us he was. Rachel started to get channelled in here shouting shut up I’ve had enough with your laughing and she didn’t want to leave the room.


Multicultural Room.

As soon as we walked in this room some sat down one end, some on the floor and others stood up and when the torches went out we heard a whoosh and a flutter of something, on putting the torches back there was several sheets of paper scattered across the floor with one saying HI on it, how strange was that. Some people decided to do automatic hand writing and you could hear the pens from the other side of the room and Dawn had spelt out John and one ladies hand started to tap the pen non stop and she could do nothing to control it. Rachel was channelled in here as her breathing changed we became very wary of here me especially, she started to make a kind of growling sound deep in her throat and Val and myself moved away, when we put the torches on Rachel was giving me a really evil and I mean evil stare which petrified me to the point I placed Kyle and Barney in from of me so I couldn’t see her but she kept trying to look around them at me. This was getting to be one of the most terrifying nights I’ve every investigated.

Ground Floor entrance.


We did glass divination in here and we got a Charlotte, Dawn asked if it was her that was making her feel sad in the nursery and she confirmed it was. The table did move slightly but we moved into the scullery to try there. Lot of people had the feeling of being very drunk in here and unstable on there feet and feeling dizzy.


Scullery and Kitchen.

We did table tipping in the scullery and it moved quite a bit but a lot still felt very drunk and unsteady on there feet, I asked if it was Mary who was with us as she has connections with the Talbot pub and the table moved confirming it was. Next room was the kitchen we could see shadows in here and faces started to changed including Barneys who had grown stout with a bushy beard. Others could see hats on people and others could see people lined up as they were waiting for there orders also a tall dark shadow was seen behind Kyle, Barney and myself.

Gardens.

Just a quick walk round outside Val had stones thrown at her face from over the wall, and also two black shapes with lights were seen in the sky, which no one could understand what they were it was very weird indeed.

Well what a truly terrifying night some had not all of those who went felt that way but I know I certainly did, I hope I have not missed too much out as I have done this by memory. Are you brave enough to go the next time we investigate Belgrave Hall.

Belgrave hall


This is one of the worlds most famous haunted houses thanks to a CCTV film featuring what looks like a white figure and many experts have argued whether it is a fake and the white shape is merely a leaf! Surely you must have read about it by now! It has also appeared on Most Haunted and on the Sci Fi channel.

It is a genuinely haunted place with many strange disturbances reported including strange sounds and a ghostly female figure. Also many vigils held there have been very very interesting from what I have read, and of course, we at Spirit Scavengers have been there!

Our investigation was held on Friday 17th October 2008, raising money for Cancer Research UK. Our online donation page is here.

The evening, which was attended by 15 from our side and Lee plus 3 more from Apparitions Anonymous, started pretty much the same way as the Guildhall, with a guided tour and explanation of experiments. It was a perfect crisp autumn night for it, with no rain or breath of wind, which was a good thing seeing some of the investigation was to take place in the garden. This was not the only difference between this and our previous investigation. it was clear during the tour that this was a very different location to the Guildhall. The two main differences was that this was built as a residential house rather than a public building, as the Guildhall was, and the fact that it was set out like a museum, in other words, areas fenced off from the public, rather than the Guildhall's wide open spaces. One thing I noticed, was that with the lights switched on, the place seemed warm, almost homely. Could it really be as haunted as it's reputation? This may have been due to all the flowers which were set up all over the house for a special festival.

The investigation proper started when Lee opened us up in a room downstairs, off the main hallway, which was clearly set up as part of the museum. I believe it is known as the culture room. Almost as soon as we had been opened up, a female member of our party stated that she felt sick. She was found a chair. Lee was asking for any spirits present in the room to make themselves known. Many people round the circle said they were aware of a presence. A male presence, in his mid 30s, with dark hair with a parting about 5"8 to 5"9 high. Someone also said they had the name 'Edward' in their head. After this Lee spoke of another male presence, this time over 6ft tall with bushy sideburns and a long black jacket. Possibly from the Georgian period. At this point the lady who had complained of feeling sick was now in a distressed state and had to leave the room. Almost immediately another lady, who had been at the Guildhall and been unaffected in such a way, also complained of feeling ill and had to leave the room. Several more people (all female!) said they felt uncomfortable. Several people were complaining about being touched during this session

We then moved into the hallway, where we started to experiment with glass moving. I had been a bit sceptical about this before the Guildhall, but this time I felt a bit more open minded. Although it is still hard to prove or disprove this particular type of experiment we appeared to get in touch with who seemed to be a spirit of a small girl. Please note that this was not a ouija board, but Lee was able to interpret the movements of the glass, and it was moving very very fast at one point. Apparently if the glass moves clockwise the spirit is male and if it moves anti-clockwise it is female. While this was happening another female member of our party was feeling bad and actually passed out! She soon came round and was there for the rest of the vigil.

Once we had finished this experiment, we moved into the dining room to see if we could experience anything there. While we were in this room several people complained about being touched, poked or prodded, especially a young lady standing right behind me, who was adamant that she had been prodded in the side, quite sharply. The sensitives among us noticed another or the same presence. This is where we experienced the first small pebbles being thrown. When we had finished in the room we switched the light on and one was on the highly polished dining table.

It was around this time we had another break. Having heard that the church yard at Belgrave was also haunted, myself, Dave, Lee, Steph and Rob decided to go and have a walk down rather than sit in the safe room. We had a look round and took a few photos but saw nothing supernatural, although Lee pointed out a grave belonging to one of the Ellis family (who lived at Belgrave Hall for years), a man who had died quite young. We could also see the Talbot pub and Belgrave House which are also haunted.

After the break, we went up to the top floor of the house where we were split into two groups as there were two different rooms for us to investigate but not alot of space in either. One of these was the Housemaid's bedroom. It appeared to be a hive of inactivity, with a quite peaceful air about it. Lesley confirmed that she was picking up nothing at all. However, the other group found the room somewhat different to what we did. The other room, the nursery was a different story. Lesley picked up the spirit of a seven year old girl with a bow in her hair, called Elisabeth. She also picked up the name Ellis (Please note that Lesley had delibarately avoided looking up some of the house's history) We heard a slight twang on the piano. The girl appeared to be quite shy of us and Lesley picked up that she was very sad. At this point she suggested we left the room, which we did.

Before we had a break a number of us went down into the cellar. Although this did not feel particuarly threatening, there was definitely a presence there with us. I know this because we heard creaking behind us which could not have been caused by floorboards as we were all standing on a brick floor! Again several people got touched, including myself!

The next part of the evening was one we were looking forward to, which was the garden vigil. We had been told it was supernaturally active. We split into four groups. It was dissappointing. although one of the groups picked up a couple of things, the only thing we experienced was movement in one of the bushes behind the memorial fountain, which was almost certainly a fox. Also there was the sound of drunks and boy racers which did not add to the spooky atmosphere.

After the dissappointment of the garden, the next part of the investigation took us into the Parlour. Now this was to prove to be the most active part of the building. We did what we usually do (ie ask if ther was a presence and if so to make themselves known). Nothing much happened immediately but as we were there a few minutes, whenever we all laughed together we would hear a small pebble thrown. This happened at least a dozen times. Lee and the others from Apparitions Anonymous said that this room was unusually jovial, but when the name Edward was mentioned the atmosphere changed almost immediately. It became strangely sombre, and we could hear faint creaking on the floorboards as if someone was moving around. Lee suggested that it was time that we moved out of this particular room.

The final part of the evening was when we gathered in the middle floor landing, outside the parlour, and stood in a circle, joining hands and Lee asked the spirits of the house to come and communicate with us. There we were contacted by at least three spirits, channelling through Lee who the first one claimed to be called 'James' but would not give us much information but appeared to shout in my face (I was standing next to Lee!) although the others in Apparitions Anonymous said it was more likely to be Edmund Cradock (who built the house) doing the shouting. Finally a spirit calling himself 'John Ellis' (the name of a man who owned the building for years) got in touch. One of Lee's team said at the beginning the year was 1710 but gave no more information.

And so our second ghost vigil was at an end. A very different night to the one we had at the Guildhall but just as fascinating.

lovely report tom and it was not until we were locking up at the end of the night that i noticed the year 1710 in the brickwork above the safe room, so i dont know if it was spirit activity that gave me that number or if i had seen it previously and it was in my subconscious - i cant explain either way as when i am channelled i have no recollection of what i have done or said.

Belgrave House 31st October 2008.

Multicultural Room.

Lee started the night with his usual walk around for those who hadn’t been before. We opened up in the court yard and we made our way to the multicultural room, some of us sat down while the rest of us stood around the room, myself and Tracey felt burning hot I felt it on my left side and Tracey felt it on her right side and we stood holding arms we were sure something was behind us. One gentleman who stood near the door could feel breathing on his face and neck it happened on numerousness occasions to the point he was having a go at people standing behind and next to him, it freaked him out so bad he moved to the other side of the room and it followed him over there.Poeple could see a figure walking around the room and Lee said he could see a man walking round looking into peoples faces. Val was prodded on her body and we all could smell a very sweet flower smell which followed by a very strong smell of manure. Michelle could sense someone standing by the side of her. Lee told us that the mans name was George and he was the gardener, Lee told Val that George liked her and that the flowers were for her. People were also being touched and the floor boards were vibrating and one of the glass cabinets was shaking. The outside light came on and Lee went to check and there was no one there. A door banged and Lee struggled to get back into the house.


Dining Room.

In this room we had a light appear on demand and the two smells had followed us into this room. Dawn felt very sick and dizzy in here and had to leave, there was also a couple of members of staff who stood outside with her. A lady was channelled in here she kept looking up to the ceiling saying that things were hanging down and she kept looking round. Something was heard walking around near the windows. On the way out of here Tracey said when she first walked in she could picture the room all decorated for Christmas and Lee had tinsel in his mind, we shut the door behind us and as we went towards the kitchen the door reopened as though someone had come out.


Housekeepers Room and Nursery.

We split up into two groups and Dawns group went into the nursery first and Lees group into the housekeeper’s room. When we walked in we all stood around and some of us felt unbalanced in here and some of us started to laugh. We had two stones thrown at us with one of them rolling along the floor sounding like a dice and when we looked the stone was uneven all over. Only half of the group standing to the right was laughing and I had apparently started to move my head strangely unbeknown to me which made them laugh more then I was doing strange things with my hands it looked like I was a child and we were all playing. Val turned to Marie and said she was fed up with the laughing which Marie also said she was and didn’t know what we were laughing at. Next thing Val shouted at me to stop laughing and she was wagging her finger at me which made us laugh more, she was being channelled, Lee asked who she was and in a very proper voice told us she was called Lizzie and that she cleaned there. She also told us that George was in the bedroom standing in front of her and that he didn’t like us laughing. She told us that he was forty and she was twenty and that they were courting, she told us that he shouldn’t be in there. She was really shouting at us to stop laughing and that it was the children throwing the stones so were we being channelled as the children our behaviour looked like it. She told us that George brought her flowers and she described freesias to us, she told us she had to go to make tea soon and they were having cucumber sandwiches, with the crust cut off. She got really angry with my laughing so I sat on the floor behind Tracey. She said the lady of the house was nice but on asking about the master she told us, George said she had to go now and that the master wasn’t very nice and he did horrible things, she got so distressed Lee brought her back to us and she had no recollection after saying about us laughing. (Not sure what the other group picked up on in nursery).
We changed rooms and Lee stayed in the house keeper’s room and in the nursery it was very cold, Tracey sat on the floor and started to get upset and cry not really knowing why. It was very quiet in here and we could smell the flowers and manure smell and Val told George to go to the garden and we would see him later. We do know if certain spirits are around it can change at any time. Michelle felt unwell and sat on the floor where she was also channelled but she wouldn’t say anything just kept looking round and at one point looked quite evil which was my time to move away. Lee came back into the room but she wouldn’t talk to him either so we decided to take a break. (Once again not sure what happened in the other room, you can add it on at the end of this report).

Gardens.

Once again Lee split us up into three groups, so I can only report two groups, My group went down to the monument and as we stood there we all could see Steve’s face change several times one minute he had a long face then next a short fat face with a beard but he did have this smug smile on his face, he did look strange. Lees face also changed slightly here as well. We moved to the pond area next and Steve still had that smug smile and when we asked him if he was alright his voice completely changed to a very high pitched voice. Lee was asked if he was alright which was funny because he answered yes to nobody. Somebody was speaking to him there so we decided to move to the woods. As soon as we walked in here Lee shouted “I’m not playing anymore I’m a always on” he was being channelled by a boy called Jonathan and he was 11yrs old and he was playing hide and seek, we asked who with and he said the Ellis sisters, he kept looking around for them and as it was very cold we asked if they had gone back to the house. He said he lived across the road and then he asked if we would play with him, He was to count and we were to hide so I hid behind a nearby tree and the others stood well back from him and we shouted ready come and find us, He turned round and moved forward and really shouted it scared us to death then in a child’s laughing voice shouted found you. We got him to move back towards the house and he came back to us.Vals group didn’t get anything much but they stayed near the house as some were scared but they did see faces looking out of the house windows looking at them.

Ladies Parlour.

As soon as we entered the room things started to happen, foot steps were heard in front of us, stones were being thrown, people were being touched, in fact some were that scared and felt ill they had to leave the room. Dawn had a message for me saying hes here and I got very agitated and told her to shut up and I didn’t want to talk to her. Tracey collapsed to the floor and every one felt very uneasy. We could see lights near the window and shadows could be seen. It was very tense in her tonight.

Upstairs Landing.

Some of us sat on the landing and some on the stairs while some went into the master bedroom, some ladies felt pains in this room like they were in labour. We also finished the night by doing a standing séance on the landing. Lee was channelled by some gentleman who was in the army which was a first for us. He seemed a nice gentleman and said they were stationed there. Tracey went very quiet on the landing, Lees was also channelled by our not so friendly friend who wouldn’t tell everyone his name, he got very angry as usual which made me retreat behind Tracey as we have an history of not liking each other. Lee got agitated and went on his knees so we decided to bring him back. Once back with us it was Dawns turn to be channelled by the same spirit only this time he wasn’t so nice to me calling me a bitch and Tracey a wench, he was determined not to say much to us only abuse and when Dawn got very upset and tried to get on her knees that was a signal to end the night.

Once again this was a brilliant night and if I have missed anything out I’m very sorry, please fell free to add bits on that I’ve either missed or if I wasn’t in on the vigil at that time. All I can say is bring on Christmas.

sorry sarah only just ahd the oppertunity to read it - brill report well done - i will do the report for the secret location at end of the month and the christmas special if you like as you have done most of them.

There seems to be an unhappy presence of a young girl in the Nursery. Our Lesley got 'Elizabeth' and 'Ellis'. Did the Ellis family have a daughter called Elizabeth who died during childhood? Was this the same child who died in a fire?
