In Hinduism there are a limit number of worlds and Heaven is just one stage in the Journey back to the source, not the ultimate destination of the soul. In this it has much in common with Buddhism and Judaism, but also with early Christianity, which appropriated the concpt of seven heavens from the Jewish mystics.
According to Hindu mythology, paradise is a kingdom of inexhaustible light (Riga Veda IX 113:7), adream like dimension, an alternative raelity no less real than our own world but one requiring a hightened state of awareness, which is alluded to in the Brhadaranyaka upanished by the phrase by the mind alone is it to be perceived (4.4.19)
Perhaps more revealing is the reference in the Rig Vada (one of Hinduhisms most ancient texts) to the acquisition of another body (the Atmam or Soul) which serves as a vehicle for Journeying through the world of spirit.
