What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of hands-on energy healing that comes from the Divine. It is an intelligent healing energy that flows through anyone who has received a Reiki initiation/attunement. Once a person is attuned to Reiki, he or she has the ability to use this energy for healing themselves or others. This ability remains with them for their entire lifetime. Sometimes Reiki can be confused with psychic energy, which it is not. Psychic energy radiates from each individual, whereas Reiki radiates from the Divine, but is allowed to flow through people who are initiated into Reiki healing. Thus Reiki has intelligence as well as compassion and a healing quality much greater than that of any individual human. Reiki is limitless as the Divine source from which it comes. The great thing about Reiki is that is does not need you to be psychic or intuitive in anyway. Once you are attuned the energy will flow through you, you become the channel.

The present form of Reiki began with a Japanese healer called Dr Mikao Usui who lived from 1865 to 1926. Dr Usui believed that humanity had a vast spiritual ability to heal after reading sacred religious texts. His search rediscovered the source of healing after searching and reading through sacred texts, which lead to him eventually praying and fasting on a sacred mountain for twenty one days. At the end of this period he had a mystical experience in which he was Divinely blessed with a healing gift that he named Reiki, a Japanese word that literally translates to ‘Universal Life Force’. Shortly after his mystical experience Dr Usui injured his foot whilst coming down from the mountains where he had been fasting. He placed his hands on hi foot and through Reiki healed himself of his injury. From then on he pursued a life path of healing in which he used Reiki to heal others, taught it to those who were interested and opened a Reiki clinic where other Reiki Masters were trained so they could pass it on further.

There is much speculation about the exact history surrounding the mysterious man. Some of which is written about him is perhaps a legend, whilst other elements are truthful. But, whatever is written about Dr Mikao Usui confirms that the man engaged in a mystical path and discovered a source of healing that he called Reiki.

Some people prefer to receive their attunements by attending with a group, this gives the added advantage of being able to try it out on each other and chat about their experiences. Others prefer a 1:1 attunement, and lastly you can receive your attunement by energy transference known as a Chi Ball. Costs vary, depending on who you choose to be attuned, but if you see anyone still attempting to charge $10,000 for an attunement avoid them, these people are seriously ripping off the public and the Divine gift of Reiki! There are varying forms of Reiki too, and also extension to the originally Usui Reiki as the more people are using the energy the more symbols and information is coming through to be used to help heal other and the Earth.
