| I know a couple of people that were in hospital here a few years ago and when i was visiting them i felt very uncomfortable. It is a place i would dread in the dark and how people used to get to sleep there when they were locked up in there is hard to imagine.
I will let you go and tell us all about it on here and then i might see if i could brave it.

| Went on a "field trip" to the towers today. Was gutted to see that it is being turned into a flat development. Most of what looked like the main part of the building is being developed but there seems to be alot more being left (for now) Took some photos. I had a headache the entire time I was around this place and it still looks absolutely AMAZING. Any idea what area would be investigated? | |

| my uncle many years ago was driving past the towers hospital when a man came out from the hospital on a bike, his car hit him and he heard the thud of the man hitting the bonnet, but when he stopped the car and got out there was nothing there, both the man and the bike had disappeared. | |

| I do know that the Towers site is very much still in use by LPT. It is targeted by the developers, nbut with the recent economic climate, it could be empty for a while. I can find out, but getting permission could be a different matter | |

| I spent the first 21 years of my life living at 36 Tailby avenue, this house backed up to the Towers, with allotment gardens in between. I remember every Year going to the Fete at the Towers and it was a STRANGE place, the residents (the safer ones) used to walk around the grounds and along the corridors when you had to pay a visit inside for the loo. I remember the towers always felt claustraphobic when you were in there and it was nice to get back outside (this seemed strange as it was a large place and quite open and airy). A friend of mine in my school days would take me in to the hospital to see his Mum, who was a cleaner there back in the 70's and this is when the place was at its freakiest, you would see nurses pulling patients along the corridors and they were screaming and trying to pull away, but to the cleaners and all others around this was a normal everyday occurance. My most terrifying experience was at the age of 8 (1977) when I and some friends went "scrumping" for apples on the allotments and I ran up to what I thought was a big kite in the trees just inside the Towers grounds, only to find it was a patient who had hung himself. I ran home screaming and my Mum had to ring the police and get them to notify the Towers staff.
A visit here would bring back so many memories for me and I think I would be cra**ing myself before the night started, just a shame things are changing so quickly there, and it seems our chance may have passed.

| I spoke to someone who works on the site and although one section of the old hospital has been sold off as flats the rest of the building is very much still in use, so maybe we could pursuade them to let us do a vigil | |

| Hi,
I work in the Former Nurses home that looks onto the what used to be Towers Hospital.
Sadly yes, it is being turned into flats, but the building is listed, and the original parts will remain when it is finished. The Tower has been incorporated into part of the decor of the roofing, and the actual hospital is currently undergoing some renovation, and the roof has been removed totally to be be redone. Opposite the hospital is the Chapel which is also a listed building so it wont go anywhere. The George Hine House is named after the chap that designed it, and Daisy Peake Building was named after Daisy Peake who was sent there after becoming pregnant out of wedlock, she never left there.
Sorry its only what i know to date. :-)

| Picking up on the ' Out of wedlock' , Norm worked in the 70's at the Glen Frith mental Hospital for a while..he was a cleaner...and he told me that a lot of the women there had been put there through becoming pregnant out of wedlock...one of them ( a real old lady by this time ) was finally released when things changed...but she had been there since she was a teenager and couldn't cope outside of the environment..she had to be put back there...poor poor women / girls...what a punishment to recieve for making a mistake..and NEVER being able to see the child they had given birth to.
Sorry off topic.

| I would say that was the Daisy Peake then... she was released, but was so institutionalised she couldnt cope in the 'real' world and hence spent her last days back in the Towers. Some of my colleagues knew Daisy. | |
