Is there a difference between someone who thinks they are psychic and someone who is mentally ill?

Throughout history many people have been locked away on the grounds of insanity for saying that they could talk to spirits and other invisible beings.Even today if you have to see a psychiatrist or psychologist one of the first things that they will ask you is do you hear things or see things.Do you hear human voices in your head.

There is a key difference between being psychic and being mentally ill; a person with psychic ability has a clear boundary between the real physical world and the invisible world.

A person who is schizophrenic,for example, cannot distinguish between what is in their heads and what they observe around them in the material world.

It is a very strange thing isnt it. There have been several times when i've gone to reply to something on here,then thought gosh i cant write that i sound like a total fruitcake. I've learnt when to stay quiet now because before friends would look at me as though i'd lost the plot. I'm not mad but sometimes it feels like i am .
Its been good to come on here and see other people that have similar experiences
