There is not much known about the history of the wood other than it used to spread for miles. before the M1 was built the woods went straight across that part and there are rumours that it was even used by Robin Hood wheather or not this is true or infact if the woods at one time stretched as far as Nottingham is myth but i can imagine it could have been so.
The interesting thing is while walking through the woods people felt as if Robin Hood had been there.
