There was an Elizabeth but did not die in the fire.

There is also an Eliza but she is not a child.

Was Elizabeth a daughter of John Ellis? Did she die during childhood?

Belgrave Hall 15 November 2008



The night started with a walk through the kitchen and into the garden. In the
garden a couple of people could smell a strong scent of flowers. The moon
was out and the garden was well lit . We then went in to the house and
did a walk round with the lights on. We opened up in the ground floor
entrance and went to our first room.

Multicultural Room .

We started the investigation here, once we were all in the room every one
chose to sit on the floor and i chose to stand. With the torches off stones
were thrown straight away , shadows were seen and people could sence
something moving about. Pam picked up on a male spirit in the middle
of the room who had flames about him but he did not belong there.At least three people were touched in here from different sides of the room. At one point we heard someone walk stright into the middle of the circle and a stone rolled straight through the middle of the circle, considering everyone was sitting this was very loud and freaked all the new people out. Everyone heard a whisper and it said something like go away, this was the begining, the only person who did not hear it was Lee.
Lee was channelled and came out with a young boy ,two peolple come out
with the number 12 . The year was 1709 the boys name was Francess
Charles Jones , he had been caught taking the silver by a young stable
boy called Mathew. Next Lee came out with Edmund , Marie asked
him to say his name and who had set off the motion detecter, was it the
children . Edmond said "children should be seen and not heard".
I asked did he have many factories to which he said "lots" Lee came
back and we moved to the next room . When we had come out of this room we checked the alarm panel and found that the sensor had been going off in the nursery so three of us went to check, this is something that would keep happening all night. This was until the third vigil then it stopped until we closed everyone down at the end and we found that it would start all over again.

Dining Room

With the torches off and every one was still noises were heard and again
things were thrown . People could see shadows and it was as if some one
was standind with us and watching what we were looking at . Some one
asked out for something from the table to be thrown and a plastic blackberry
was thrown to the back of the group . some people saw small lights at the end
of the room and could feel a cold breeze around their legs . More things were
thrown and people were touched. Lee was told by a female spirit "sitting ducks"
The motion detecter was heard again .We left the dining room for a welcome
break .

Ground Floor Entrance

A table was set up and we had a go at glass divination . The glass moved in
a clock wise motion , we took in turns to allow every one to have a go .When
we changed over people, the glass moved anticlockwise and a name of Mary
came out . We stopped the glass and had a go at table tipping , the table did
move one lady could see a shadow under the table as if someone was picking it up this happened a couple of times interestingly enough people felt their legs go cold at about the same time as this lady spoke out. But our attention was drawn to to motion detecter which we now know
is the one in the childrens nursery . Lee and a couple of others went up stairs
to check the room and its contents. On leaving the nursery a stone was thrown
as we walked back down the stairs.

The Cellar

In the cellar again when people were still and the torches were off a stone was
thrown straight away. people were touched and one lady had a hand brush her
hair , more noises were heard and more stones were thrown Two people had
to leave as they could not take any more. one stone was thrown right behind a person standing down the long corridor right at the back the motion detecter was heard again
and more stones were throw . Another couple had to leave as it was too much.
more people were touched and by now every one was standing very close
together . This was good as everyone in the celler seemed to be touched in different places bit it was always either above the shoulders or below the knees, twoi men who stood right at the back away from other people both had their bottoms touched. We did find this quite active tonight and the thing we all found quite amazing was what lee had picked up on in the dinning room and what he heard as sitting ducks, this was because we seemed to be being picked off two at a time. It was time for a break .

The Garden

We split into small groups and did a tour of the garden as the moon was out the
garden was very well lit, nothing was picked up in the garden so we returned
back to the house .

The Ladies Parlour

This room produced more stones being thrown and more people being touched.
One lady had to leave and go with pam and have a break out the front of the house.
Noises were made on request and a tapping was heard on the floor. Marie said it
sounds like a walking stick then a lady was pocked quickly in the chest two times.
it was very cold up stairs and lots of breezes were felt .

The Master Bed Room, Gentlemans Study ,Childrens Nursery and House keepers
Room .

We split into two groups and went in to each of these rooms . It was very quiet
and we all felt it was building up to some thing big. Nothing was heard and nothing
was seen . On leaving the nursery the large landing light was moving in a clockwise
motion.

The Middle Landing

We all stood in a circle and linked hands,the light above had stopped moving and it
seemed to go dark. Lee was channelled by a young child which said his name was
Bobby Ellis . He said he was seven years old and was looking for Charlotte ,The child
was very quiet and it was hard to hear what he was saying, he then said"shhh" ive got to go as he`s
coming . Lee changed and Edmund was back he looked around and i started to ask
what is your name he said you know i asked what is your name and again he repeated you know somebody said is it edmund and lee Laughed, so i asked him waht is his surname and he shouted " craddock " i then asked why are you still here to
which he shouted " its mine" he looked to his left and said to the man " your a bigun
" to which the man said " yes i am "and then they both laughed. I then asked how many
children do you have he said "ask the maids" . I then asked whats your wifes name he
said "Mrs Craddock" I asked again he said " bitch " I asked again he said " Ferlicia "
(or someting a long those lines) we are unsure as what was said here, we can only assume it was that he was answering to the question that had been asked but it could have been something else as we know that his wifes name was Ann. I asked when was he born he said " 1672 " I again asked if he had many factories and again he told us he had many I asked other
questions but got no answers Lee came back and we closed down . this was one of the best nights we have had there and it shows that even Edmund was a decent man if treated with the respect that he deserves,after all it was his house as he says and we started to get a conversation growing with him at least next time we will have more to work on with Edmund if he wants to join in with the conversing. One thing that we all learnt from this is if you badger or bait and treat someone with a negative attitude you will get this back just as you do in this life but if you deal with it in a positive way then they will treat you with the same dignity. Many of Edmunds experiences would have been natural to him and in that time would have been ok in society but in our day ands age we would find it offensive, we are dealing with spirit and just because we cannot accept what he had done in the past does not mean it was wrong in his day. Things change throughout periods of time what we would not accept now and are repulsed at was once accepted. eg race, religion, sex. creed.

As people left the building the motion alarm was going off every three minutes Lee
checked the alarm panel again it was the nursery , on the final lock up the motion alarm
sounded Lee checked the panel and it was now the servant stair case to the rear .

I did not put in the report when i asked out and before i had finished a stone was thrown and a lady called Marion screamd and elbowed me straight in the ribs and knocked the stuffing out of me

Then a few minutes later some one was touched screamed again and every shot my way and nearly knocked me straight over the barrier .....with all the asking out i did which was all night 16 out of 18 people in the group were touched and me an maz never got anything

Steve were they the two girls that have been to the guildhall and wygston house if not do you know their names?

The ones you were standing next to in the cellar.

yes they were lee.we 1st met them on the taster at belgrave and they have been to guildhall too.not sure about wigston though.....one was called marion (with the funny laugh) and her friend fell over in the garden at belgrave

that is ok then as they have asked for alton towers Kt friends did not wnat.

yeah they said they wanted them on sat night .cos they said it would be a good idea to go all day

Belgrave Hall 23rd December 2008.

Due to the work going on in the stable area we changed our safe room to the
Multicultural Room, and while Lee was giving his talk about the Hall myself
and Val was touched, I was brushed on the hair and Val was touched on her
knee. Whilst Lee took the group on a walk around we moved all the chairs so
we could start the night off in this room.

Multicultural Room.

We opened up in here and some sat on chairs or the floor while the rest of
us stood around the room, we had a couple of strange smells again. A couple
of people were touched and Emma had a strange feeling all one side of her
body down into her legs resulting in her not being able to stand, this was
quite frightening for her so we got her to swap sides to see if it went
away but it didn't it seem like the spirit had taken a liking to her.
Something was thrown and it hit the lady sitting on the floor, who also
could see someone walking up close to her like it was looking into her
face. A few others could see a tall shadow walking across the room then
back again. Noises could be heard from the hall way and also whispering was
heard from there too. Lee was channelled in here giving Craig a start as he
was peeing closely into his face's the torches were off I heard him move
and I asked for one to be put on as I like to know where he is at all
times. I asked him who was with us and he told me his name his John Ellis
and it was his home, he then asked me how many was in my family and I told
him six and he replied you have a big one, I asked how many were in his and
he said seven. I asked him if he liked us being there and he replied yes,
we asked him if he knew it was Christmas and he said of course that's why
we were at his party. I asked him if there was anyone else with us and he
told me Charlotte and Emily were out and that Charlotte was dancing as she
loved to dance. He told us his dinner was ready soon and that they were
going have vegetable soup then Venison and I asked him what dessert was and
he said blackberry pie(I think).He also told us Tommy was in the room and
he was the one who had been touching people but he had gone now and we
would see him in the nursery. We brought Lee back to us then as John wanted
his dinner.


Dining Room/Kitchen.

As this was a large group we split into two groups, Lee's group went into
the dining room and me and the others went into the kitchen. As we turned
the torches off we noticed the light on the maids stairway was on and it
wasn't on before and next minute the alarm went off and as Lee went to
check it was the one in the nursery and a door which was bolted shut on the
first floor was now open, could this be Tommy going back to the nursery. We
settled down again and straight away Craig could smell vegetable soup and a
couple of us could smell fruit pies. We noticed that a gentleman's
appearance had started too changed he grew a lot taller and his facial
features also changed. It also started to go freezing in here. We also
heard load screams which we thought were from Lee's group because some of
us said sounds like that's a good room, as we started to swap with the
others I asked Lee which was were scared and screamed out and he replied no
one not one person had screamed, but our group had all clearly heard it.
Our group went into the dining room and we could see a large figure hunched
over at the back of the table as though they were looking at something on
the table, we also got a strong smell of manure in here again also a shadow
was seen near the window.


Top Floor Office.

We had three tables set up in here one with a glass on and the other two we
tried table tipping. The glass moved slowly on the first table and the
others didn't move. We then tried the glass on the second table and that
started to move as Lee's table did move at the same time. We then moved the
glass to the third table which only got it to move a little bit. We split
into three groups this time with Steve and Pam in one room, Val and I in
another with Lee's the third one. My group went into the Ladies bedroom
first and it was very quite in here, but towards the end we could hear
something being dragged across the floor very loud it was and we though it
was the table next door but it seemed to come from a small room off ours
which you can't get into. When we swapped rooms Steve's group comes
straight out and asked Lees if the had been dragging the tables they had
heard it too in the nursery but Lee thought the noise had come from one of
our rooms so we had all heard it at the same time but we all thought the
others had done it but in fact none of us had. Nursery time for our group
and once again it was very quite we once smelt baby sick though but nothing
else happened. Our turn next back into the office and we had ago at the
glass. We did get it to move quite a lot and some of the new people were
asking the questions.


Ladies Parlour.

We all managed to squeeze in here and as soon as we were settled and Lee
called out stones were thrown some at us and some into the room. Some
people were touched and some could see shadows moving across the barrier.
We also could hear footsteps on the wooden floor. Also some people could
see lights. As it's a dark room some found it quite scary at times.


First Floor Landing.

Some people did vigils in the other rooms and some stopped on the landing,
noises could be heard from the landing above. We ended the night with a
standing séance after making sure no one broke the circle we waited and
soon enough we had a visit from Edmund, who was another owner of the house,
sometimes he's not too nice but we did have a nice interesting chat tonight
with him. He was asked the year and if he minded we was in his house, but
he said we where fine there. Edmund was asked lots of questions by some of
the new people which were very good as it gives them the chance to find out
things they want to know. He did tell them that he liked the ladies and had
a quite a joke with the men about it, when asked how many children he had
he told us to ask the maids. As it was now quite late we brought the night
to a close. Once again Belgrave didn't disappoint a good night was had by
all.

Glad to see you left out the bit when i was called an idiot by two different ghosts ...........

Also when i was getting a coffee i had my back to a store room under the stairs, some thing pulled on my shoulder as if they were trying to get past.......... i looked round and there was no body there............

The report was written by Sarah and ive just put it live on the site.

I cannot remember much of that night and this shows how much you forget in a few weeks and that is why we need to get the reports done quicker in future if possible.

I do know that our group had quite a bit of activity in the dining room and in the new room with the glass and the tables.

A simple plan if everyone is doing there bit then you could always write your own bit straight away then you wont forget and then when everyone finally gets the time to write the main one you already have each others fresh ones.Just a thought.

Lee you will have to keep us informed on weather elli comes out again... very interesting that she came out at virtually the same time as edmond and on the floor she shouldnt have been on... i think we are on about getting a few of us together to do another one possibly at wigston houseor belgrave again...id like to see the cellars and go in the gardens at belgrave.. thanks again... enjoyd it!!! Friday 28th February.

Secrets report.


We started the night off in the multicultural room where Lee gave us a brief talk.
Lee then took the group for a tour around the building on the first floor some of the group said they could smell savoury pies being cooked.
On the second floor when muse walked into the nursery room the alarm was triggered, was this a taste of the night to come!
After a break the group went back into the multicultural room where Lee opened up the group. The room was almost pitch black and almost immediately after Lee had asked out for any spirits in the room to show their presence people started to be touched. Muse said she had been touched and had felt three fingers. Ry reported that he had felt a finger down his back after seeing the figure of a man standing in front of him and then brushing past him, I also saw a figure standing in front of me. Members of the group also reported seeing a fog in the middle of the room which kept coming and going. Stones were also heard and felt by the group and the cabinets in the room where making tapping creaking noises. Lee was all of a sudden very quiet and when asked we found he had been channelled by a young male spirit by the name of John who told us he came to the house to steal spoons, he asked us not to tell anyone, he also told us he liked Mrs Ellis. Someone in the group started to get agitated so Lee was then bought back. A couple of people in the group said that they felt sad when John had gone and had tears streaming down their faces. Some of the group also felt as if the floor was vibrating and Maxine said she kept wanting to swallow and had a slight nauseous feeling and she also said she was swaying backwards and forwards at some points. We then went for a break.
We went up to the second floor where the group was split into two. Lee took his group into the educational room where they did glass divination, the glass kept going towards Lindsey, when questioned we found out that it was a man who thought Lindsey looked like a maid he knew, Lee asked us if any names came to mind, Maxine thought of Mary but didn’t say anything although when Lee asked if we could guess the name of the maid Maxine asked if her name began with M it didn’t but later into the investigation Lee mentioned a Mary. Another of the group suggested the name Elizabeth but that wasn’t correct either but when Lee said it was near enough Maxine said Eliza which was correct. During all this someone had noticed that the torch was shining on Lindsey, on further inspection we found that the torch had moved slightly and was pointing a Lindsey. We asked questions regarding Eliza and received positive results. John the spirit of the young man that had come through earlier in the multicultural room came through again and we could hear him walking around the room from the window to the top left hand corner of the room. We asked John if he’d like to sing and we started to sing nursery rhymes to him and he responded by knocking on the table
The other group didn’t really get a lot of response in the educational room although the spirit of young John was briefly picked up on.
When the first split group went into the nursery nothing happened even after many times of calling out, members of the group also said they felt very calm and safe in here, although the presence of a adult male spirit was felt outside of the door for a while the feeling wasn’t a friendly one and the door wasn’t opened until we all felt that the presence had gone but no contact was made here.
The second group had a good response in the nursery and again the spirit of young John was picked up on after someone had said that there was only one kind of spoon to which someone had replied no there isn’t and went on to say what types of spoons there were. Lee then said had young John been to New Walk Museum as spoons had been going missing there and also asked if young John had ever visited a wetherspoons to which a picture on the wall was loudly rattled. Maxine also said she thought that she could see the rocking horse moving all the time the group were in here.
The second group went into the maid’s room and everyone said their hands had gone really cold and some people said they felt a breeze passing under their hands as well.
The first group went into the maids room, again it seemed very calm in here someone said it felt like the calm before the storm after many times of calling out the group got no response and went and met up with the rest of the group when they had finished. We then all went for a break.
When we had finished our break Lee took us down into the cellars many people said they felt uncomfortably here. We could hear the boxes in the room being moved, we also heard bangs above our heads. There was also a light that kept coming and going in the doorway it was as if the lights had been put on and then turned off upstairs. Many of the group again said they were being touched and lights were seen both up in the room and down on the floor at one point we thought someone had put on a torch as there was a bright light that lit up the room for a few seconds but when asked everyone said they had not put on their torches. We then noticed Lee had gone quiet and asked if there any spirits with us, Lee was had been channelled again. We asked the spirits name and he replied with you can call me sir we asked him if he had any other names and he replied Thomas so we called him sir Thomas, we also asked why he was in the cellar he said he was sorting the ham and also said about beer and that he used the beer to disguise the smell of the off ham. He also told us he liked like Eliza from the big house. Maxine asked him a question to which sir Thomas replied with did she like being touched all over and she said it depends on where and who, this seemed to annoy sir Thomas and he very sharply replied it’s a five year old boy madam and he’s touched you all over. Maxine asked what the little boys name was and he replied with Fred. Lee then came back to us. When we came out of the cellars the top of Maxine’s hair was standing on end.
We next went to the scullery we asked out in here and tried to get a response through doing table tipping although some of the group thought the table was trying to move there was no definate movement but Lee and a couple of others stated to sway. As time was starting to get short we moved on to the kitchen. Here AL said he felt desolate and lost Maxine reported seeing lights in front of her eyes and she wanted to shake her head to get rid of them she also thought she could clearly see the figure of a person who was standing next to Ry which was unusual as it was very black in the room and each time she looked at him it looked like it was coming towards her. Again after calling out a few times we didn’t get a response so we decided to move on. AL had his head down and was very quiet Tony asked if he was all right and he suddenly came back to us he said that he had been able to hear us all and see us all but wasn’t able to respond until Tony had asked if he was ok. Also while we were in here we had heard the room alarms go off twice when Lee checked both the alarms had been in the kitchen whilst we were in there.
We next went into the dining room nothing happened in this room but one of the group said that he felt very claustrophobic and sick and he needed to get out, so we all left the room and the gentleman was then quite ill and had to sit out the rest of the investigation.
We now went to the first floor and entered the ladies parlour Lee called out and stones were thrown lights were seen and Bec was poked in the breast and Claire was touched on the hand. Lee saw lots of lights coming from a corner by the window. Lee knocked and asked if there was a spirit present if they could copy his knocking we didn’t get any response to this but a whistle was heard everyone said they hadn’t whistled and then no more was heard. Ry said he heard tapping behind him and also had a stone hit him on the head. We were nearly out of time so we quickly moved onto the first floor landing for a séance. Lee protected the group and I asked out if there was any spirit with us Lee had gone quiet and when asked who he was he replied Edmund I asked him his family name and he replied Craddock. The group asked him if he was married and had he any children he said he had children but didn’t know how many and also said he was married to the bitch. He said he liked the maids and also liked a drink and to gamble. Emma and Gavin asked if Edmund would sing to them Edmund didn’t like this and said they should be locked up. AL asked what business he did but he wouldn’t tell us. Edmund started to get a little agitated so we bought Lee back and called it a night.
